Fan games are at their best when the affection is obvious, and ClownTastic Romance radiates it — 8,000 words of cheerful devotion, minigames nobody asked for, and six endings for one clown. It's a quick, silly, surprisingly polished treat that knows exactly what it is. More fan work should be this unembarrassed to be fan work.
About ClownTastic Romance
ClownTastic Romance is a short, playful fan-made visual novel with one purpose: letting you date Nikolai Gogol — or as the page puts it, 'Yokohama's one and only clown.' Written in the voice of self-declared author Emil, it is an affectionate, tongue-in-cheek fan work rather than anything official, and it never pretends otherwise.
The build packs over 8,000 words of gleeful, self-aware dialogue, cute original sprites, a handful of minigames and six endings to chase. The tone is over the top from the first line — 'Have you ever looked at Nikolai Gogol and thought, man, I wish I could date him?' — and never comes down.
Two practical notes from the developer: adjust the audio settings to your taste before playing, and know that the web browser version can have glitches and formatting issues that don't appear in the downloadable Windows build.
How to Play
It's a visual novel: read through the story, play the minigames as they come up, and see which of the six endings your run leads to. With six of them, one playthrough won't be enough.
