Think you know chess? Forget some of that. Rulehouse is a pawn chess adventure from Dalichrome and team where every stage rewrites the game — fifteen different levels, all with different rules, locations, and funny characters.
The pitch is globe-trotting chess relearning: master a new form of the game as you travel, one ruleset at a time. If a stage's twist breaks your brain, the level can be refreshed instantly and tried again.
It's a team build: Dalichrome on art and UI, Jacob Engelbrecht on chess backend and UI, Ian McBee on dialogue and piece design, Gaberiel Soares on music and SFX, with testing by Jack Williams and Brendan Glenn. The page also links the original version of the game. Still in development, playable free in the browser with Windows and macOS downloads available.
How to Play
Move your pieces with the mouse and work around whatever house rule each stage imposes — interacting with buttons along the way. Right-click returns pieces or cancels a premove, and R (or a mouse wheel click) refreshes the level if a position goes wrong. Fifteen stages, fifteen rulebooks: adapt or restart.
Controls
Left click – Move pieces, interact with buttons
Right click – Return pieces, cancel premove
R – Refresh level
Mouse wheel click – Refresh level
Tips & Tricks
Read each stage's twist before moving a piece — the rewritten rule is the real puzzle.
