MW4 DMZ Guide: How to Start, Loot & Exfil

Get started in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ: access requirements, solo and squad play, Hajin objectives, extraction and what to prepare at the FOB.

What is MW4 DMZ?

DMZ is the extraction mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. You deploy into Hajin alone or with a squad, collect equipment, pursue objectives and decide when to extract. AI enemies and rival players share the zone; reaching an objective does not finish the run. Getting out with what you need is the other half of the job.

The Forward Operating Base, or FOB, is where you prepare between deployments and develop your longer-term capabilities. This guide covers MW4’s version of DMZ, rather than instructions for the older Modern Warfare II DMZ Beta.

How to access DMZ

The announced early-access window starts October 20, 2026 for eligible Standard Digital and Vault Edition preorders or prepurchases. The full MW4 release is October 23. As of this October 21 check, the announced early-access start date has passed; this is not a live server-status check.

Use the edition and platform listed on your purchase when checking access. Do not assume that owning an older Call of Duty or having its DMZ files installed provides this entitlement.

A first-deployment checklist

Our suggested learning plan is to make the first outing small enough to understand. This is editorial preparation advice based on the announced systems, not a timed or hands-on route.

WhenSuggested actionWhat to decide
Before you leaveChoose one objective and check your equipment. What would make this run worth returning from?
After arrivingLocate the objective and an extraction option on the map.Can you reach both without a large detour?
While lootingCompare each tempting stop with your original goal.Does the extra reward justify another fight?
Before extractingAgree on the exit with your squad and regroup. Is everyone ready to leave together?
Back at the baseReview what you brought back before preparing again. What was missing, and what will you change next run?

What can you do in Hajin?

Story Missions advance the narrative inside a live DMZ server. Dynamic Operations provide changing objectives, while Side Ops and free exploration give you other reasons to travel across Hajin. Choosing a story objective does not remove other Operators from the match.

Our recommendation: learn one objective type before combining several. If the squad is still learning the map, agree in advance whether an unexpected encounter is a reason to fight or a reason to leave.

How to exfil

Standard extraction sites are marked by green smoke. Call the extraction helicopter, survive the wait and board it to leave. The call can attract attention, and another squad may be waiting nearby. Alternate extraction methods also exist, including a Fulton balloon or Flare.

Our recommendation: keep enough supplies for the wait, not just the trip to the site. Reaching the smoke is not the same as completing an extraction. Do not plan around a fixed helicopter countdown from an older DMZ guide.

Can you play solo? What should you watch for?

Solo and squad deployments are supported. Hajin contains hostile AI as well as other players, and threat escalation can bring stronger enemy responses. The Tac-Map helps you read the area rather than treating every route as equally dangerous.

For a solo learning run, we suggest a narrower objective and an earlier decision to leave. With friends, assign someone to keep the objective and exit in view; three players independently chasing loot can turn one manageable task into several disconnected fights.

What to do at the FOB next

Treat the return as a short review: compare your intended objective with what you achieved, decide what you need for the next attempt, and check the relevant facility before deploying again. If an upgrade or crafting action is unavailable, first identify whether the blocker is an unlock, a recipe or a material.

Guide coverage

Checked October 21, 2026 against publisher information. PlayBloo has not played MW4 DMZ. Suggested priorities are starting points for learning, not tested fastest routes or a best-loadout ranking. Exact loot coordinates, guaranteed spawns and a complete mission walkthrough are outside this guide.
