Plenty of roguelites have skill trees; Chained Path is the rare one where the tree is the combat — placing a skill is a tactical decision twice over, and the Awakened-slot layer makes party-building feel like part of the fight. Five genuinely different Rogues and a healthy between-run economy give it more structure than the usual browser demo. A strong pick for strategy players who like their runs cerebral, and the browser demo is a generous slice of the full game.
About Chained Path
Chained Path is a turn-based roguelite built around one idea: your skill tree is part of the battle. Each of the five Rogues fights through a personal Skill Tablet — casting a skill opens its connected successors, so every attack is chosen for what it does now and for what it unlocks next. Prepare a powerful follow-up, build a Rogue's special resource, or take another route when the party needs protection.
The five Rogues play distinctly: turn pressure into power with Brox's Temper, prepare explosive bursts with Shana's Shadowflame, combine frost and healing with Lyra's Cryo spells, gather and spend Blake's Ki, or weave together Steven's elemental Infusions. Tablet layouts and Awakened slots — which give skills placed in them additional effects — make your board genuinely yours.
Between fights you plot a route across the dungeon map (tougher encounters, treasure, shops, shrines, recovery), pick up Skill Runes and Boons mid-run, and choose from 40 Artifacts, Potions, Summons and Vestiges. Runs end but progress doesn't: Rogue XP and unlocks carry forward, collected Spirit pays for Wishes that steer the next run's Boons, and beaten dungeons unlock Nightmare difficulty. The free browser demo covers all five Rogues with 2-Hero and 3-Hero dungeon battles — no download required. A solo-developed project, formerly known as Rogue's Awakening.
How to Play
Fight turn by turn, casting skills from each Rogue's Skill Tablet — every cast opens the skills connected to it, so plan chains rather than single moves. Keep the party standing, build each Rogue's resource, and read what the next fight demands. Between battles, choose your route on the dungeon map and pick up Runes, Boons and items; after a run, your XP, unlocks and Spirit make the next one stronger. Spend Spirit on Wishes before departing to bias the Boon pool toward your strategy.
Controls
Turn-based point-and-click interface — select skills from your Tablet each turn. See the original itch.io page for the developer's control notes.
Tips & Tricks
Chain with intent: a weak opener that unlocks your heavy hitter is often better than a strong opener that dead-ends.
Awakened slots amplify whatever sits in them — reserve those slots for skills you cast every fight.
Route around your party's state: shrines and recovery before hard fights, treasure when you are healthy.
A useless-looking Boon may complete your build — check mid-run picks against your Tablet connections.
Spend Spirit on Wishes between runs to steer which Boons appear next time.
Cleared a dungeon? Nightmare difficulty pays more Spirit for the Wish economy.
