Why we're featuring Rainbow City

Rainbow City is our favorite kind of idle game: one absurd, tactile verb that slowly expands into routes, crews, mines and prestige. The physics angle gives it a texture most clickers lack, since the color genuinely piles and rolls instead of just ticking up in a counter. If you like watching a little machine hum, or you want a city builder you can run from a phone in portrait, this is an easy recommendation.

About Rainbow City

A giant crystal core sits at the edge of town, and every hit you land knocks loose a little more color. Rainbow City turns that one idea into a whole economy: send the color home and the city grows — fill the Commons, add homes, open the mines, and watch an ordinary street gradually turn into a rainbow. The clever part is that the color is physical. Every chip you knock off falls, piles up and rolls, so part of the game is literally shoveling paint. Build routes and carriers haul the loose color in while hammer choirs keep chipping at the core while you are away. Later on there is research, ore and a reset loop with permanent upgrades, plus an AUTO mode (beta) with x1, x2 and x4 pacing if you would rather just watch the machine you built do its thing. It plays on phone and PC, saves in your browser, and was released by gelwater in October 2026.

How to Play

Tap or hold the core to break color off it, then tap or hold the loose color to send it home. Tap buildings to upgrade them, build routes so carriers can haul color in for you, and let the hammer choirs chip away while you are gone. Drag to pan the view and use the wheel or a pinch to zoom; progress saves in your browser.

Controls

Tap or hold – break the core / send loose color home Tap buildings – upgrade them Drag – pan the view Mouse wheel or pinch – zoom

Tips & Tricks

Build routes early — carriers are how the city grows while you are busy at the core. Permanent upgrades survive the reset loop, so an early reset that unlocks research pays off later. AUTO mode (beta) is honest about what it is: if you want an idle screensaver, set the pace and let it build.

Features

Physics-driven color: every chip falls, piles up and rolls Carriers, smashers, mine carts, flow crews and gliders, each with their own job Research, ore and a reset loop with permanent upgrades AUTO mode (beta) with x1, x2 and x4 pacing Plays on phone and PC with drag-to-pan and wheel/pinch zoom Saves in your browser, no account needed Released October 2026 by gelwater
