Enshrouded 1.0 Beginner's Guide: First Quests, Gear & the Shroud

Follow the opening quests, prepare food and ranged gear, manage Shroud trips and solve common crafting problems in Enshrouded 1.0.

1. Establish your base, then follow the Blacksmith quest

Use the opening main quests as your route: place your first Flame Altar, then work toward freeing the Blacksmith. Keen tuned the first two level-ups around those milestones. Explore nearby chests between objectives, but return to the main quest when you need the next progression step.

2. Pack for the trip you are taking

Before entering fog, identify your way back to open air. Plan a small objective and a return trip before committing to a longer expedition.

  • Eat food whose bonuses suit your weapon and your immediate need: health, recovery or your combat attribute.
  • Carry healing supplies. Bandages restore health gradually, so find space to recover rather than expecting an instant rescue.
  • Equip your glider and grappling hook once crafted; keeping them in your backpack is insufficient.
  • Bring a bow or staff for enemies you cannot reach with melee attacks.

3. Treat Shroud time as a travel budget

Watch the timer while exploring, use available refills and remember clear-air spots on your route. Leave enough time to retrace your path. Shroud Survival Potions can help extend an outing, but a route you can escape is more useful than spending that entire extension on one more fight.

The 1.0 balance pass reduces the effect of stacking time extensions and places more hourglass refills in the world. Old videos showing exceptionally long Shroud stays can therefore set the wrong expectation.

4. Improve the equipment you actually use

Runes support equipment improvements as well as weapons. Check upgrades for your current armor before replacing your whole build. Compare the item's protection and perks, then decide whether to improve it or save materials for the next piece.

Make your next session easier

Our suggested routine is one main objective per outing: rescue a survivor, gather an upgrade material or investigate a landmark. Return, improve what that trip unlocked and choose the next destination. This is an editorial planning approach, rather than a timed walkthrough.

Before following a detailed build, check its version. The linked skill-tree guide explains how to choose useful nodes after the 1.0 reset without relying on an old point allocation.
