About Rulebreaker
Rulebreaker is a daily cipher game from Bludle. An encrypted transmission lands on your workbench, and your job is to build a machine of rule modules that turns the noise back into readable language. Some modules help, some are decoys.
The chain runs top to bottom and re-runs the instant you change anything: add a module, tune its numeric value, or move it up and down the stack — the live output and a signal-clarity meter show whether you are closer to words. A letter shift of -3 turns KHOOR into HELLO, and the first transmission starts with the correct module already fitted, so you only need to tune it and watch.
Module types include letter shifts, mirror alphabets, word reversals, neighbour swaps, alternating shifts, word rotations, vowel cycling, word-order rules and more. Up to three hints get progressively more specific, and the decoder's notebook teaches anchoring techniques for finding a foothold. When the message reads cleanly, lock the decode. Free in the browser, no download.
How to Play
Read the encrypted output, then add a rule module to the chain — the live output updates instantly. Tune numeric values and reorder modules (rules run top to bottom, so order can change everything), using the signal meter as a compass. Reveal up to three hints if stuck. Press Lock this decode only when the complete transmission reads as language.
Controls
Add, tune, reorder and clear rule modules by clicking or tapping the on-screen controls. Escape closes open dialogs.
Tips & Tricks
Anchor with short words: word lengths survive most rules, so A, I, THE and AND make useful footholds.
If letters look scrambled inside believable word lengths, try reversals, rotations or neighbour swaps before alphabet shifts.
Change one module at a time and let the live output judge that single decision.
Repeated ciphertext shapes usually stay related — expect the decoded fragment to repeat too.
Move a promising rule earlier or later before discarding it; position can turn noise into language.
Treat the signal meter as a compass, but trust recognisable words over tiny score movements.
